Formatted contents note | Diabetes mellitus is one of the most common chronic diseases in nearly all countries to increase in numbers and significance, as changing lifestyles lead to reduced physical activity, and increased obesity. Estimates of the current and future burden of diabetes are important to allocate community and health resources, and to emphasize the role of lifestyle, and encourage measure to counteract trends for increasing prevalence ( WHO, 2011)
This study aims to provide a proven and convenient herbal therapy for the treatment of hyperglycemia. This study serves as a proof that Centella asiatica ( Familiyu Apiaceae) is an effective alternative medicine which can lower blood glucose levels.
The extract was subjected to phytochemical screening and yielded attributes of Antihyperglycemic effects. A total of 27 male Albino rats were used in the study. All rats were randomly divided into 9 groups. Group 1 contained 3 (hyperglycemic) rats which served as the negative control group. which received only distilled water; Group 2 contained 3 (hyperglycemic) rats which served as the first positive control groups, which received Momordica charantia tea (50g/100ml); Group 3 contained 3 (hyperglycemic) rays which served as the second positive control group which received Momordicas charantia (50g/50m); Group 4 contained 3 (hyperglycemic) rats which received Carica papaya tea (50g/100ml); Group 5 contained 3 (hyperglycemic) rats which received Carica papaya tea950g/50ml); Group 6 contained 3 (hyperglycemic) rats which received centella asiatica tea (50g/100ml); Group 7 contained (hyperglycemic) rat received Centella Asiatica tea (50g/50ml); Group 8 contained3 (hyperglycemic) rats which received the combination of Carica papaya and Centella asiatica (25g+25g/100ml) and Group 9 contained 3 (hyperglycemic) rats which received the combination of Carica papaya and Centella asiatica (25g+25g/50ml). The rats were dosed orally (once) by gavage with either distilled water or the extracts for a day. Blood glucose, levels of all rats (all 9 groups) were recorded.

Results and Conclusions. It has been found that Centella asiatica tea is effective in lowering blood glucose levels. The combination of Carica papaya and Centella asiatica has the highest hypoglycemic potential among all tea treatments. |
